Product Description

This card contains 225 presets. Several new and improved effect types are included - among them are gated preamp simulations, tap tempo effects, long delay loops as well as a large collection of delay, reverb, shifter, dynamics and filter effects. Most presets (aside from pedalboards and loops) are crossfadeable and can easily be strung together to create larger systems. We have tried to cover most of the bases or elements one might wish to mix, hence the title of this library.

The Alchemy 101 Library is a large collection of effects, whose menus and parameters have been thoughtfully laid out in a quest for clarity and cleanliness. Knobs are justified, and are presented, with a symmetry (where possible) across like presets. This collection also represents an development of some past designs. Although there are some 'exotics', this is, in general, a meat and potatoes collection, including many Eventide 'tricks' - from FM modulation, to envelope triggers, to interactive shifting, to pitch-tracking ring-modulators. Our hope is that people will take some of the ideas presented here and extrapolate them further - we have tried to use this opportunity as a 'how-to' for those interested in getting deeper.

80 Utilities Too

Utilities and tools. These presets are here to help understand systems as well as several requested tools.

81 Shifters

Pitch-shift based presets. Building blocks and shift effects with and without secondary effects.

82 Delay Based

Many flavors of non-modulating delay effects. Look for what we term 'effect evolution', This means how effects types grow from simple to more complex structures while retaining a characteristic interface. We have limited these, in most cases, to up to four voices. This allows the possibility of combining diverse presets into larger structures.

83 Modulating Delays

Modulating delays, chorus/flange and psycho-acoustic effects. Like the Delay bank with the addition of modulation. This means sweeping the delays via LFOs etc. We have kept parameters to a minimum throughout, with this in mind you may decide you want to change LFO wave shapes etc...We hope these will begin to lead you into this wonderful system's patch editor.

84 Verbs

Reverb and reverb pieces, some with secondary effects. This bank is to use, aid in understanding, and hopefully give you some great effects. Although some of these include shifters etc., we have placed them in this bank as they seem to us to be more 'wash/verb' effects. The last four are premiere quality reverbs, We hope you like them and find them as versatile as we do.

85 Dynamics

Various dynamic based effects. Here are all the basics, unglamorous but vital to our work. '_M' designates mono, '_D' dual, and '_S' stereo operation. This coding sequence is continued throughout this collection. Aside from the 'articulation' effect this bank is based on a new set of modules; COMPRESSOR, GATE2 etc. which use a linear response time and in the case of the compressor, a 'soft knee' parameter.

86 Filters

Various filter based effects. What needs to be said about this most basic of sound manipulation categories. It is so intrinsic to what we do. We have included some of our favorite effects here. In keeping to the basic strategy, parameters are laid out with care and are kept to a minimum without, hopefully, de-value-ing (pun intended). Here the new PEAK2 module has been used for greater versatility and responsiveness in 'envelope-follower' type effects.

88 Preamps/Pedalboards

Clean Preamp simulations with effects. As an instrumentalist, the pedalboard banks are where you should live. We have used a guitar to set parameter values, which we hope will negate the 'need' to alter EQ settings etc.

89 Preamps/Fuzzpedals

Fuzz Effects. Like the previous bank there is a lot of stuff in here - spend time with them. Every box you ever owned before the 4000 was very likely comprised of only a small handful of options - here are more than most people are used to. As with all 4000 series effects you can easily generate several dozens of effects from any one of these presets. Remember that all the fuzz's are bypass-able.

90 Preamps / Overdrive

Overdrive/Amp simulations. The overdrive is more reactive than the fuzzs'. By turning your instrument's volume pot down you can somewhat clean up the sound. This allows a much better interaction between the instrument and the effect. You will need to calibrate these to your instrument and playing style. The included set of programs show a good range of possibilities. is the basic 'crunch' while the param (slewing the signal asymmetrically) is the basic reactive element (which includes some of the high frequency manipulation). Play with dynamics to begin to get the feel of how these react to lead versus chordal playing. You may need to adjust several params to get the right combination. We hope you like them!

91 Preamps/Polyfuzz

Various multiband algorithms. Multiband manipulation yields such intriguing results that you really need to spend some time in its world. Aside from sounding good by themselves, the results one gets by combining these with auxiliary equipment can not be stressed enough. As with ALL harmonic manipulations YOUR EARS alone can lead you. Don't cut short your exploration because on first listening you feel there is too much 'fizz' and not enough 'fuzz'. The combination of playing style, source material, direct versus post-preamp, headphones versus 4x12 cabinets etc. etc. all play major roles in the perception of these pups. We love them 'as is' and recommend you to play chords as well as leads through these, you won't be sorry.

92 TapTempo

This bank includes all the tap tempo presets (except loops) regardless of type. With this in mind you may refer to previous presets from which these have been derived. These tap tempo structures are based on the 'update' style of entry. Play with the front panel triggers to see how these systems react. Note that with combinations (delay plus filter for example) the TT (tap tempo) is not equal between the combinations but is mathematically related to ratios which, we believe, works best. You may decide to go inside them and alter these ratios, if so we recommend looking at the TT Templates as well as the any given preset to help lead you through this process.

93 Loops

This bank requires the DSP4000's Sampler option to be installed. They were created with the larger Sampler, if yours is smaller, the maximum lengths will be limited by your system. Also, all of these are manipulations of stereo loops with pre and/or post-loop processing. You will of course be aware that the feedback does not contain post-loop manipulation data.
